Ryan Nie Wins Award And Gets Call To The AHL

Kalamazoo , MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL and affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announce goaltender Ryan Nie has been selected the ECHL Goaltender of the Month for October and has been loaned to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.

Nie was perfect in October going 3-0-0-0, including a victory in the K-Wings very first ECHL game against the Reading Royals on October 15th.

In October, Nie led all ECHL netminders with 1.32 goals-against average and a 0.957 save percentage. Nie was also second among all ECHL goaltenders in victories.

The honor makes Nie the first member of the K-Wings to receive an ECHL monthly honor.

The native of Naticoke, Ontario was also the first-ever member of the K-Wings to earn a weekly award, goaltender of the week for the period of October 19th-25th.

Nie heading off to Portland marks the fifth-time over the past five days that a K-Wings player has been called-up to the American Hockey League.

Kalamazoo will continue their three-game road swing with the middle contest of the trip this Saturday, November 7th with a 7:05 p.m. encounter against the Gwinnett Gladiators.

The K-Wings will return to Wings Stadium Friday, November 13th with a 7:30 p.m. encounter versus the Cincinnati Cyclones. The game on November 13th will also be the K-Wings first Frugal Fan Friday, which features $1 beer and $1 hot dogs.
