Johnstown Chiefs News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have claimed winger Moises Gutierrez off of waivers from the Alaska Aces.
The 23-year-old native of Anchorage, Alaska joins the Chiefs after attending training camp with the Utah Grizzlies before signing on with the Aces on October 28. Gutierrez was held scoreless in one game with the Aces on October 30 against Idaho, but did pick up 15 penalty minutes.
A third year pro, Gutierrez has spent parts of each of the last two seasons in the ECHL. He made his debut with the Texas Wildcatters in 2007-08 by playing in 42 games and picking up 25 points (9G, 16A) and 75 penalty minutes. Last season Gutierrez posted 23 points (11G, 12A) in 37 games for the Elmira Jackals. The 6-4, 225-pound right wing also has AHL experience with the Houston Aeros (1G, 1A in six games) and the Binghamton Senators (zero points in two games).
In the 2004 NHL Entry Draft Gutierrez was taken in the sixth round, 164th overall, by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Prior to turning pro he played five seasons of junior hockey in the Western Hockey League. From 2002 to 2006 he spent four seasons with the Kamloops Blazers skating in 265 games netting 86 points (33G, 53A) and 401 penalty minutes. He had a breakout season in 2006-07 with the Everett Silvertips as he racked up 55 points (35G, 20A) and 110 penalty minutes in 61 games.
Gutierrez is expected to be in the lineup when the Chiefs visit Cincinnati tomorrow for a 7:30 faceoff.
Mark your calendars! The Chiefs are back on home ice on Wednesday, November 11 against Reading at 7:35. The Chiefs will honor military veterans in a special pregame ceremony, and a special Veterans' Day price of $5 is being offered to all active military members as well as veterans. The Chiefs will also wear special camouflage jerseys that will be auctioned off live immediately following the game. Good seats are still available.
