Bakersfield Condors News Release
Las Vegas - A three-goal second period paced a 4-1 victory for the Bakersfield Condors over the Las Vegas Wranglers at Orleans Arena Thursday night. With the win, the Condors have regained sole posession of first place in the Pacific Division.
The Condors (5-4-0-0, 10pts) dominated much of the opening stanza, taking a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard and firing 17 of the first 19 shots on goal. Rookie C MacGregor Sharp punched in a rebound opportunity from the low slot for his 4th of the season at 15:24 for Bakersfield. But Vegas (4-4-0-0, 8pts) bounced back to tie it up less than two minutes later, when a rebound deflected home off RW Matt Watkins' skate to make it 1-1. The Condors led in shots 17-5 in the frame, with Wranglers G Michael Ouzas stopping 16 shots in the period.
Condors G Timo Pielmeier kept it a tie game early in the second, making a key stop on C Adam Miller, who was all alone in front of the Bakersfield cage after a takeaway. The save proved to be big, as within a couple minutes Bakersfield jumped out to a 3-1 advantage. RW Dan Sexton and F Andrew Ianiero both lit the lamp within a span of 1:27 to regain the lead. At 9:28 D John de Gray charged in from the point on the power play to hammer in his 3rd of the season and give Bakersfield a commanding lead.
The third period progressed without any further scoring, as the Condors cruised to the win. Bakersfield outshot the Wranglers 16-8 in the period, and 40-21 in the game. Pielmeier stopped 20 shots for his 3rd victory of the season.
