Florida Everblades News Release
Charlotte, NC - November 5 The Florida Everblades snapped a three-game winless streak with a convincing 7-0 victory over the Charlotte Checkers Thursday at Time Warner Cable Arena. Jacob Micflikier had a six-point night on three goals and three assists for Florida, while Everblades goalie Chris Beckford-Tseu made 28 saves in earning his first shutout of the season.
Special teams were huge for the Blades Thursday night, as Florida had four power-play goals and a short-handed tally. Meanwhile the Everblades penalty killing unit sparkled for the second straight game, stopping Charlotte (4-2-1-0) on all of its eight power-play chances. The Everblades grabbed a 1-0 lead at 11:22 seconds of the first period when Rob Hennigar found the back of the net with a 45-foot wrist shot with the Everblades short-handed. Hennigar's third of the season proved to be the game-winner.
In the second period Florida (4-4-1-1) exploded for four goals, including three in the first seven and half minutes to take a 5-0 advantage. Brandon Buck picked up a loose puck and scored in on the power play in front of Sauer just 49 seconds into the stanza.
Micflikier scored his first of two goals in the period off a feed from Hennigar at 3:26 for a 3-0 Florida lead. Hotham made it 4-0 for the Everblades four minutes later, and Micflikier added his fifth goal of the season, and his fifth in six games. The four-goal, second period barrage gave Florida a commanding 5-0 lead after two periods.
Florida's Micflikier would get his hat-trick late in the third period for a 6-0 lead. With one minute to go in the contest, Colin Nicholson had a final goal for the Blades in the 7-0 final.
The Everblades' three-game road trip ends Friday when Florida will travel to face the Gwinnett Gladiators for the first time this season.at 7:35 p.m.
