Las Vegas Wranglers To Require All Fans To Wear Adidas Shoes In Would Be $3 Million Deal
November 5, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
LAS VEGAS, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers announced today that the team will require all fans attending Wranglers home games to wear Adidas shoes in return for the $3 million forfeited this week by the University of Central Florida when Michael Jordan's son wore a pair of Air Jordans, violating the school's contract with the famed sports shoe maker.
"Obviously we think this is a great opportunity for both the Wranglers and Adidas," said team president and COO Billy Johnson. "It certainly makes a lot of sense for us, and the possibilities for Adidas are incalculable. If the goal of Adidas marketing and sponsorship is to put shoes on feet in big numbers, this is the way to do it."
The team said if Adidas accepts its offer more traditional sponsorship properties would be included in the deal. "Signs and tickets for sure," Johnson said. "This is a huge win-win for each of us."
According to the team, fans who try to enter the Orleans Arena who are not wearing Adidas shoes will be provided a pair at no additional charge to them. "I think every gentleman has had a restaurant experience where a tie had to be provided by the maitre d'," Johnson said. "Part of the $3 million sponsorship fee will go to buy shoes back from Adidas."
