
Rutherford to Start in CHL All-Star Game

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs forward David Rutherford has been voted one of six starters for the 2011 Central Hockey League All-Star Game, the league announced recently. Rutherford will make his first career All-Star appearance when a team of CHL All-Stars takes on the Rapid City Rush on January 12 in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Starters for the game were determined through the voting of CHL Head Coaches, Communications staffs and select media members from CHL cities. Of the 60 ballots submitted, Rutherford ¬â¢s 34 votes were the most received by any forward and second-most cast for any player (defenseman Darcy Campbell received 35 votes).
Nearing the halfway point of the season, Rutherford leads the league with 19 goals and ranks third with five game-winners. The second-year Mudbug has added 14 assists to give him 33 points, tying him for 11th in the CHL this season. He also places in the league ¬â¢s top 25 players in plus/minus rating at +10.
The 2011 CHL All-Star game is scheduled for Wednesday, January 12 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, South Dakota and will feature the host Rapid City Rush taking on a team of CHL All-Stars comprised of players from the remaining 17 CHL clubs.
Joining Rutherford in the starting lineup for this year ¬â¢s CHL All-Stars are forwards Sebastien Thinel (Odessa) and Neil Trimm (Laredo), defensemen Darcy Campbell (Rio Grande Valley) and Nathan Lutz (Mississippi) and goaltender Kyle Jones (Colorado). Reserves for the team will be announced this week, and the All-Stars will be Co-Coached by Allen ¬â¢s Dwight Mullins and Missouri ¬â¢s Scott Hillman.
The Mudbugs are back in action this Friday with a road game against the Texas Brahmas before they return home for Saturday ¬â¢s New Year ¬â¢s Day tilt against the Mississippi RiverKings at 7:05 pm.
