Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (13-13-3) five game winning streak was snapped before the holiday break by the Laredo Bucks on December 22. The Bees fell 5-0, being shutout for the first time this season. This week the Bees will face the Odessa Jackalopes four times, two games at each team's home arena. The series will start at the State Farm Arena on Tuesday and Wednesday before shifting to the Ector County Coliseum on Friday and Saturday.
The Killer Bees are 2-1 against the Jackalopes this season with all three games coming in November. During the Nov. 5 and 6 set the Bees were victorious in both affairs, 5-4 in a shootout in the first game and 4-1 the second time around. Juliano Pagliero has made a combined 113 saves against the Jacks' in the team's three games.
The Bees are .500 for the month of December with a 5-5-1 record and look to end the month strong and secure their first winning December since the 2005-06 season in which the team went 9-3-0.
BEES NEED TO KNOW
. Defenseman Darcy Campbell has been selected as a 2011 CHL All-Star starter receiving the most votes of all starters. Campbell is the first Killer Bee starter for the CHL All-Star team since 2007. During 2009 the Bees were part of the South Texas All-Stars.
. The Killer Bees five game winning streak in December was their longest since February of 2009 and the Bees three game winning streak against Laredo was their longest since December 2005.
. The Bees lead the Laredo Bucks 11 points to 10 in the first-ever Cricket Mayor's Cup which is awarded to the team with the most points against the other.
. Forward Tomas Klempa was named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week on December 20 after a four goal, five assist week in which the Bees went 4-0-0.
. Four is a magic number When scoring four goals or more the Bees are 12-1 this season.
. The Killer Bees have now registered more than 200 franchise regular season victories in their eight seasons of CHL play. The 200th victory came against Bossier-Shreveport on Dec. 16.
. Zak McClellan, who was named captain at the start of the season, is one shorthanded goal from tying the all-time Killer Bees record of eight.
