Quad City Mallards News Release
QUACK TRACKS
Back-to-Back The Mallards last week lost their final two games before breaking for Christmas. A 4-2 home loss to Evansville last Wednesday was followed by a 2-0 setback the following evening at Missouri.
Blanked
The Mallards last Thursday were shut out for the second time this season. The Flock had only previously been blanked on November 23 when it fell to Tulsa 3-0.
Home Sweet Home With last Wednesday's loss to Evansville, the Mallards wrapped up a four game home stand with a 3-1-0 record.
Special Teams While Quad City went 0-for-3 on the man advantage in its two games last week, the Mallards have gone 9-for-25 on the power play in their last five games. The Mallards rank third in the league on the power play (21.9 percent) and lead the CHL in home power play efficiency (26.5 percent). The Flock ranks ninth in penalty killing (82.0 percent).
Obi on the Up
Left wing Obi Aduba (9-15-24) last Thursday saw his four game point scoring streak (3-2-0) halted by Missouri. Aduba has scored nine goals and notched 22 points in his last 20 games.
Streaks Stopped Linemates Eric Giosa (10-6-16) and Jake Riddle (4-3-7) both had a four game streaks stopped in last Thursday's meeting with the Mavericks. Center Giosa had scored once in each of four straight games (and added a pair of assists) before coming up dry against Missouri. Left wing Riddle had notched all seven points he has recorded since joining the Mallards in a four game run that was halted last Thursday.
A1
Goaltender Adam Russo's three game winning streak ended last Thursday in Missouri. Russo left that game due to injury after giving up the first Maverick goal in the first period. Russo does still lead the league in save percentage (.932) and rank second in goals against average (2.32).
Ins and Outs Center Mike McLean (lower body injury) and right wing Tyler Shelast (lower body injury) have been place on 10-day injured reserve, while goaltender Adam Russo (upper body injury) has been placed on 14-day goaltender injured reserve. All three were injured in last Thursday's game at Missouri...The Mallards today signed goaltender Jerad Kaufmann- who played for Quad City last season- and forward Eric Slais...Center/right wing Joel Gasper played in both of the Mallards' games last week after missing one game due to a lower body injury...Left wing Phil Axtell (auto accident) is on the Mallards suspended list...Defenseman Adam Maccarone remains on CHL leave.
Bloomington
The PrairieThunder defeated Evansville 2-1 in a shootout yesterday and is now 7-2-0 in its last nine games. While the PrairieThunder currently sits in fourth place in the Turner Conference, Bloomington boasts the best winning percentage (.646) in the conference. The PrairieThunder allows a league-best 2.5 goals per game and ranks third in penalty killing (85.8). The PrairieThunder ranks second to last in the CHL offensively, averaging 2.8 goals per game. Jason Dale (8-13-21) is Bloomington's top point scorer. The Mallards and PrairieThunder have split their first four meetings.
Wichita
The Thunder defeated Missouri 7-4 yesterday to snap a three game losing streak. Wichita dropped the only CHL game played on Christmas 6-5 at Tulsa. The Thunder ranks last in the league in goals allowed (3.8 per game) and penalty killing (75.4 percent). Wichita scores an average of 3.9 goals per game- third most in the league. Wichita's Jesse Bennefield (15-21-36) ranks seventh in the league in points and, along with teammate Matt Robinson (15-16-31), is tied for sixth in goals. The Thunder this evening will host the Mavericks for a second straight night before taking on the Mallards for the first time ever Wednesday evening.
Fort Wayne The Komets, who fell to Dayton 2-1 in a shootout yesterday, have won just one of their last nine games (1-7-1). Fort Wayne snapped a seven game losing streak by defeating Dayton 4-2 last Wednesday. The Komets are the lowest scoring team in the league. Fort Wayne has totaled 48 goals, an average of 2.1 per game. Center Leo Thomas (8-8-16)
and defenseman Frankie DeAngelis (5-11-16) are tied for the team lead in points. The teams nearest the league cellar- dwelling Komets in the standings- Evansville and Laredo- are ten points ahead of Fort Wayne. The Mallards have gone 3-2-0 against the Komets this season; the home team has won each of the first five meetings between the two clubs.
Missouri
Last night's 7-4 loss in Wichita ended the Mavericks' five game winning streak. Last night's setback was just Missouri's second regulation loss in 11 games (8-2-1). The Mavericks improved to 2-1-0 against Quad City this season by defeating the Mallards 2-0 last Thursday. The Mavericks' Rob Nolan leads the league in goals against average (2.16). The Mavs, who allow 2.9 goals per game, are the second stingiest team in the CHL. The Mavericks are just one point behind Turner Conference-leading Rapid City, on whom Missouri has three games in hand.
