Dayton Gems News Release

For the second time in three games, the Dayton Gems let a lead slip away in the third period to Fort Wayne.

On Monday night, the Gems had a 2-1 lead heading into the third period, but gave up three goals in the final period and were defeated by Fort Wayne 4-2.

After a scoreless first period, the Komets took the lead midway through the second period when Leo Thomas scored with 10:53 on the clock.

The lead was short lived for Fort Wayne as Erik Boisvert scored a goal for the Gems less than a minute later to tie the game at 1-1. Kyle Bochek and Tom Boudreau were each credited with an assist on the play.

Brandon Naurato then gave the Gems a 2-1 lead late in the second period with goal. Greg Labenski assisted Naurato on his fourth goal in four games.

The Gems were able to hold the lead for the remainder of the second period and midway through the third period as well. That's when Fort Wayne took over.

In the final nine minutes of the game, the Komets scored three goals, including two goals that were scored less than 30 seconds apart. Tab Lardner scored the tying goal for the Komets and Sean O'Conner scored the go-ahead goal. P.C. Drouin then sealed the game for Fort Wayne with an empty net goal with just seven second remaining in the game.

The Gems (14-11-1) will return home for a game against Evansville (10-14-4) tomorrow night. The puck drops at 7 p.m. at Hara Arena.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
