Rematch Monday
Being a Holiday week, Monday is a bit busier than usual with three contests and two of those are rematches of Sunday games with Dayton and Fort Wayne going at it again, this time in Fort Wayne, and Missouri and Wichita battling at the INTRUST Bank Arena for the second straight night. On Sunday, the Gems topped the Komets 2-1 in a shootout with Jeff Jakaitis stopping 31 shots and Ernie Stewart scoring the game winner. In Wichita, the Thunder roared back from a 3-1 second intermission deficit to score six times in the third period en route to a 7-4 win ending the Mavs team record five-game win streak. The win ended a three-game slide for the Thunder. Jesse Bennefield scored twice in the third period including on a penalty shot.
Difference Maker
The Fort Wayne Komets unwrapped quite a gift for their fans on Christmas when they announced their intention to bring back veteran forward Colin Chaulk. In his 13th pro season and ninth with the Komets, the Toronto native skated with the Komets during each of their last three seasons, all championship campaigns. In his FTW career, Chaulk has scored 150 goals, 411 assists, 561 points and 811 penalty minutes in 461 games and ranks sixth on Fort Wayne's all-time top 10 point leaders list. He is expected to be signed and ready for the Komets New Year ¬â¢s Eve tilt against Quad City.
Numbers Game
3- The number of goals that Dayton forward Brandon Naurato has scored in his three games since joining the Gems. The ironical part is that all three goals have come against the team that released him, Fort Wayne.
11- The number of points that Missouri ¬â¢s Olivier Filion has accumulated during his current eight-game point streak. In all, the first year Maverick has three goals and eight assists and has posted a +1 in seven of the eight games (+7 total).
3- The number of points that Arizona has earned out of a possible four in two games versus the Laredo Bucks this season. The Sundogs and Bucks begin a three-game series this week in Prescott Valley with games scheduled for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Laredo is 13-5-0 in the all-time series versus Arizona.
6- The number of wins the Colorado Eagles have in seven games versus the Rapid City Rush this season. On Sunday, the Eagles beat the Rush 4-2 with Kevin Ulanski continuing his torrid pace by pitching in with four helpers. The reigning CHL MVP has two goals and seven assists in his last two games and was named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week on Monday.
4- The number of goals that Todd Robinson has scored in the Jacks last two games accounting for 80% of the Odessa offense. Only Jeff Pierce has scored a goal for Odessa besides Robinson in the team ¬â¢s last two games.
500- The number of pro games that Fort Wayne forward Leo Thomas has skated in after Sunday ¬â¢s game in Dayton. Thomas is tied for Komets lead with eight goals and 16 points.
19- The number of days between home games for the Evansville IceMen who return home after a six-game road trip on Thursday when they host Mississippi. The IceMen have points in each of their last two road contests (1-0-1) and have just Tuesday ¬â¢s game in Dayton remaining on their journey.
Slap Shots
-The Odessa Jackalopes lost their 14th game of the season yesterday in a 6-3 loss to the Texas Brahmas, a game they led 2-0 after one period. Last season, the Jacks lost just 11 games the entire season. Although their overall mark is 12-14-2, they are 5-3-1 in their last nine games.
-In 311 minutes of hockey this season, split between Texas and Bossier-Shreveport, goaltender Jeff Harvey has shown he has the ability to be a big winner in the CHL. In his six decisions, Harvey has allowed 14 goals and has posted a 5-1-0 record with one shutout.
-Wichita defenseman Daniel Tetrault has had a strong stretch over his last three games scoring two goals with three assists and a +7 plus/minus rating. The tough part for the Thunder is that as a team they have scored 16 goals but won just one game.
-Colorado ¬â¢s Riley Nelson is having another outstanding December recording four goals and 11 assists in just eight games. Last year, Nelson recorded 16 points (4-12=16) in 12 December games. Nelson has taken over the team lead with 35 points thanks to his four goals and five assists over his last four games.
-The newly formed Evansville line of Nicklas Lindberg, Braden Desmet and Brian Bicek have accounted for a total of 15 points including seven of the IceMen ¬â¢s nine goals scored. Lindberg leads the team with 34 points and has three goals and six assists in his last six games.
