Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush hosted the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Arena in what ended up to be a disappointing first meeting for the Rush with the final score leaving the Mudbugs defeating the Rush, 5-1.

The Rapid City Rush were the first to find the back of the net during the first period with Jamie VanderVeeken getting the goal, which was assisted by Rich Hansen and Eric Nelson at the 12:59 mark. The Mudbugs were quick to respond as just 26 seconds later, Joe Ori tied the game with the assists from Kevin Cooper and JR Bria. This being the teams' first meeting didn't stop them from getting physical early with Jason Goulet and Brett Angel dropped the gloves near the midway point of the period.

Bossier-Shreveport was the only team able to put a point on the board during the second period with Tyrel Lucas grabbing the power play goal. The second period continues to be a struggle for the Rush, with the Mudbugs having the sole goal of the period as well as dominating the shots at 12-5.

Bossier put the game out of reach in the final frame as they picked up goals from Dale Lupul, Tyrel Lucas and Simon Mangos. The Mudbugs held the edge in shots 39-29. Special teams also went the way of Bossier-Shreveport as they tallied 3 powerplay goals on 9 chances while holding the Rush scoreless on 6 chances. Ryan Mior picked up the win in between the pipes for the Mudbugs as he made 28 saves on the night while Rush goaltender Miguel Beaudry made 34 saves on 39 shots.

The Rush take on the Mudbugs in game number 2 of the weekend series Saturday night at 7:05 pm.
