Leonard Power Scorpions' Victory
December 13, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[HIDALGO, Tex]-Seth Leonard scored two power play goals leading the Scorpions to a 4-2 victory of Rio Grande Valley on Saturday night. The win snapped the Scorpions' three-game losing streak.
Leonard parked himself in front of the net and picked up a lose rebound. He found the five-hole to be open and scored the game winning goal.
Things looked eerily similar to Friday night in the early going. For the second straight night Jesse Bennefield scored the game's first goal, his ninth of the season.
Michael Beynon tied the game with a power play goal, the first tally of his professional career. The goal ended a streak where the Scorps had not scored in their last 24 power play opportunities.
New Mexico grabbed their first lead of the game with another power play goal. Seth Leonard flipped a backhand shot into the net as he was falling to the ice. The Killer Bees tied the game when Jay Bicek scored on a wraparound shot at the 9:17 mark.
With the goaltender pulled late in the game, Aaron Lee mishandled the puck at his blue line. Jamie Herrington raced to the loose puck and deposited it into the open net sealing the victory.
The Scorpions return home for their annual "School Day Game" on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Enjoy a day off of work and catch a Scorpions game for $18 which includes an all you can eat special.
New Mexico is also home on Friday, December 19th and Saturday, December 20th against Colorado. The first 1,500 fans inside the Santa Ana Star Center Friday receive Chili's water bottles. Following Saturday's game the Scorpions players will be at the Chili's in Rio Rancho for a meet and greet.
Group tickets and corporate partnership prices are now more affordable than ever after the Scorpions reduced prices across the board.
