Rage Spoil Teddy Bear Toss, Shutout Thunder 1-0
December 13, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Wichita - The idea was for Wichita Thunder fans to throw stuffed animals onto the Kansas Coliseum ice whenever their team scored its first goal. That goal never came - not in regulation, not in overtime, and not in the ensuing shootout as Rocky Mountain Rage netminder Marty Magers made 31 saves and Aaron Davis was the only player for either team to find the back of the net in a 1-0 shutout win for the Rage.
Magers and Wichita netminder Tim Boron were equally impressive through the first 65 minutes of hockey, stopping a combined 59 shots and helping to kill off 15 power plays (10 kills for the Rage, five for the Thunder). In the tie-breaker, though, Magers was just a bit better, stone-walling all five Thunder shooters to record the first perfect game in Rocky Mountain history. Davis was the third shooter for the Rage and managed to slip the game's only goal through Boron's pads off the backhand.
Thunder fans were relegated to throwing their stuffed animals, which will be donated to charity, onto the ice following Magers' final save against Wichita's Scott Rozendal.
Coming on the heels of last night's 5-3 victory against the Arizona Sundogs, tonight's result secured back-to-back wins for Rocky Mountain for the first time since Nov. 14 and 15. The club is now 8-11-2 and remains in a second-place tie with the Rapid City Rush in the Northwest Division with 18 points apiece.
A showdown for second place looms as the Rage remain on the road for the first half of a home-and-home against the Rush on Tuesday, Dec. 16. The teams then travel to Broomfield Event Center on Thursday, Dec. 18, to conclude the two-game set.
Individual tickets for the 7:05 p.m. start against Rapid City are available for as low as $5 for kids 12 and under (with the purchase of at least one adult ticket) and cost just $10 for students with a valid ID. Tickets may be purchased at the BEC Box Office, www.Ticketmaster.com, charge-by-phone at (303) 830-TIXS, and all Ticketmaster retail outlets.
Season tickets and mini-plans for the 2008-09 campaign are still available, as well, with packages beginning as low as $17 per seat. For more information, visit www.rockymountainrage.com, or contact the Rage Ticket Sales Staff at (303) 439-RAGE or tickets@broomfieldsports.com.
