Rapid City Rush News Release
(Allen, TX) - The Rapid City Rush earned a 4-2 win over the CHL-leading Allen Americans on Sunday afternoon. The victory extends the Rush win streak to a season-long five games and also means the Rush are a perfect 5-0-0 on the current road trip. The Americans are the top team in the CHL with just eight regulation losses, but three of them have come at the hands of the Rush.
The Rush were able to light the lamp on the first shot of the game at the 1:37 mark of the first period. Colt King slid a puck to Riley Weselowski at the right point, and the defenseman's shot handcuffed Chris Whitley for the 1-0 lead.
Allen bounced right back in the middle period, netting a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. The first tally came at 3:06 from Bruce Graham on a blast from just inside the blueline that deflected off of the glove of Danny Battochio and in. Ten minutes later, Graham set up a back-door slam for Allen's leading goal scorer, Nino Musitelli, who potted his 21st of the year.
In the third, the Rush found the game-tying goal just 3:04 into the period. Defenseman Dave Grimson fired home a one-timer from the slot area that beat Whitley under the blocker, marking Grimson's fourth goal of the year. Ryan Menei and Konrad Reeder assisted on the goal, extending their point streaks to twelve and nine games, respectively. Colt King then provided late-game heroics, backhanding home the eventual game-winner with just 1:55 left in regulation. Finally, Ryan Menei slid home an empty net goal, bringing the game to its 4-2 final.
Danny Battochio finished the game with 20 saves for his 17th win of the season.
The Rush now take on the Odessa Jackalopes on Wednesday at 6:05pm MST at the Ector County Coliseum. Tune into 100.3 the FOX for live coverage.
