NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 30)-The Brahmas faithful witnessed a point earned in a 3-2 overtime loss against the Fort Wayne Komets Sunday afternoon at the NYTEX Sports Centre for the Brahmas inaugural "Faith and Family Day".
The best way to get a rowdy crowd revved is to score a goal, and the Brahmas did just that early on. Within :26 seconds of the opening faceoff, Alex Curran deflected an initial shot from defenseman Darryl McArthur for a 1-0 lead. The Texas defense buckled tight the remainder of the period to hold Fort Wayne scoreless.
Fort Wayne ¬â¢s Tab Lardner evened the game in the third period with his team leading 14th goal at the 6:11 mark, but the celebration lasted just over one minute before Texas ¬â¢ newest skater, Brian Ihnacak, regained the lead for the Brahmas. A shot from McArthur from the point deflected off Ihnacak ¬â¢s stick, top shelf over goaltender Nick Boucher ¬â¢s right shoulder.
Four minutes remained on the clock when Frankie DeAngelis set up to Wayne Savage ¬â¢s glove side and rifled a shot to the back of the net for the 2-2 tie to send the game to the extra period. But it just was not meant to be when Mathieu Curadeau found daylight and lit the lamp for the 3-2 Komet ¬â¢s victory.
Texas will take back to the road on Tuesday as they head west to face the Odessa Jackalopes. This weekend will be the Metroplex rivalry, beginning in Allen Friday followed by a home game at the NYTEX Sports Centre Saturday at 7:30 pm.
