
Graham's Two Points Not Enough as Allen Falls to Rapid City 4-2

ALLEN, Texas- In a rematch of last year's Presidents Cup Finals, the first place Allen Americans fell to the defending champion Rapid City Rush 4-2 in front of 3,781 at the Allen Event Center this afternoon. Thelosssnaps Allen's six game winning streakanddrops the Americans league best record to 30-8-1 (61 points).
Rapid City's Riley Weselowskiscored the first period'slone goal1:37 into theframe when his shot from the point snuck through Chris Whitley's five-hole. Whitley finished the opening twenty minutes with four saves while Rush netminder Danny Battochio stopped all five Allen shots.
Bruce Graham tied the score at 1 3:06 into the second period with a blast from just across the blueline that foiled Battochio. Colton Yellow Horn and David Strathman were credited with the assists on Graham's twentieth tally of the season.
The Americans kept the pressure on the Rush and roared ahead with 6:15 remaining in the period when Nino Musitelli picked up Bruce Graham's cross-ice pass and backhanded the puck under the glove of Battochio. The goal was Musitelli's team leading twenty-first of the season.
Chris Whitley kept the Rush off the scoresheet in the middle frame, stopping all 10 Rapid City shots.
Rush defenseman Dave Grimson struck3:04 into the third period to tie the score at 2, followed by a goal from Colt King with 3:55 remaining in regulation that put the Rush ahead 3-2.
With Chris Whitley pulled in favor of the extra-attacker, Rapid City dashed any hopes of an Americans comeback with an empty-net goal from Ryan Menei that extended the Rush's lead to 4-2 with 0:43 remaining.
Chris Whitley finished the day with 18 saves on 21 shots and is now 12-4 on the season. Colton Yellow Horn extended his point streak to seven games with an assist on Bruce Graham's second period goal .
With the loss, the Americans lead in the Berry Conference remains at 14 points over the second place Oilers. Allen currently holds four games in hand over Tulsa.
The Americans four game homestand will continue on Wednesday night with a 7:30 PM faceoff against the Tulsa Oilers.
