LINCOLN -- Matt Rusch mowed down the Saltdogs (9-10) lineup as the Winnipeg Goldeyes shutout Lincoln 9-0 in front of 2,452 fans at Haymarket Park Tuesday night.
Rusch (2-0) worked seven terrific innings, allowing just five hits while walking one and fanning five. Rusch, and reliever Craig James, did not allow a Saltdogs runner past first base after the third frame.
Winnipeg opened the game's scoring with a four-run rally with two outs in the fifth, highlighted by a Price Kendall two-run triple.
Pete Parise (3-1) went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits in his first start of the season.
Alan Rick was the lone Saltdogs hitter to book a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3. All five of the 'Dogs hits were singles.
Chris Roberson drove in two runs and has now driven in seven for the series. This marks the second time the Saltdogs have been shut out this season.
The teams meet again Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. for game three of the four-game series. Justin Edwards (1-0, 9.72) will square off against Fabian Williamson (1-2, 5.28). Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
Tomorrow night is a Cappy's Wing Wednesday at Haymarket Park, featuring over 20 kinds of sauces on a dozen wings for $5. For tickets call 402-474-BALL or visit www.saltdogs.com.
