Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

SIOUX FALLS, S. D. -- The RailCats let a six-run lead slip away on Tuesday night, but prevailed in the 10th inning as Craig Maddox delivered a two-out, pinch-hit RBI single to give the 'Cats a 7-6 win over the Pheasants. The win evens the three game series, with the rubber match on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05.

With two out in the 10th, Kyle Haines singled to right and moved to second when Pheasants right fielder Cristian Guerrero misplayed the ball. Maddox, pinch-hitting for catcher Ryan Babineau, lined a single to left that was played by left fielder Mark Shorey. Shorey's throw home was up the line, and Haines evaded catcher Al Quintana as he slid home with the go-ahead run.

Sioux Falls tied the game in the ninth against Chris Allen. Jake Taylor led off with a double and was on third with two out when Allen threw a wild pitch that allowed him to score.

The RailCats matched their biggest inning of the season as they pounded out six runs on five hits in the first against Pheasants starter Matt Sommo. Mike Coles, Rico Washington and Babineau each hit RBI singles. Sean Smith hit a sacrifice fly and David Cooper capped the inning with a two-run triple to left to give the 'Cats a 6-0 lead.

Trevor Lawhorn hit a two-run homer to right in the fourth inning to pull the Pheasants to within 6-2. In the fifth, Cesar Nicolas hit an RBI groundout, a run scored on Kyle Wilson's wild pitch and Cristian Guerrero crushed a solo homer to center to cut the lead to one. With two out and Shorey at second, Lawhorn singled to right. Shorey tried to score to tie the game but was thrown out by RailCats right fielder Mike Massaro at home to keep the 'Cats in front by a run.

Wednesday afternoon will be the final game of the road trip, as the RailCats are currently 2-3. Morgan Coombs (1-0, 4.73) will get the start for Gary.
