Rummel Rebounds as Crushers Stop Wild Things

AVON, Ohio - A double steal scored Andrew Davis in the bottom of the sixth to help give the Lake Erie Crushers a 4-2 victory over the Washington Wild Things Tuesday evening at All Pro Freight Stadium in front of 3,732.

The Wild Things got out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning by scoring an unearned run. Following a two-out single, Michael Parker was picked off the throw got away enabling Parker to move to second. Adam Amar followed by lacing a double to right to give Washington a 1-0 lead.

The Crushers waited until the sixth to answer against Jeff Sonnenberg, who was solid for the Wild Things in his second start of the year. His only spot of trouble came in the sixth when Jodam Rivera led off with a walk. Following a wild pitch, Andrew Davis singled home Rivera to tie the game and advanced to second on Eddie Tisdale's base hit. Tisdale attempted to steal second and was caught in a rundown. Davis alertly raced for home and beat catcher Billy O'Conner's tag to give the Crushers the 2-1 lead.

Wayne Bond opened the seventh inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on Jodam Rivera's RBI-triple, his first of the year, to give the Crushers a 3-1 lead. Drew Saylor's RBI-single in the eighth extended the advantage to 4-1 with Travis Vetters crossing the plate.

Phil Rummel continued his success at All Pro Freight Stadium, pitching six innings in his second home start of the season. Rummel allowed only the unearned run in the first and posted six strikeouts in recording his first victory of the season. Rummel has yet to allow an earned run in 12 innings at home. Alberto Rolon pitched 1.2 innings to record his sixth save of the season. Andrew Davis was the only player in the game with multiple hits, finishing 3-for-4 with a run, a stolen base, and an RBI.

With the victory, the Crushers (11-12) have won three in a row, the first three-game win streak of the year. RHP Matt Smith (3-1, 2.70) takes the ball in tomorrow's homestand finale as the Crushers aim for the sweep. Washington (8-15) counters with RHP Zach Rosenbaum (0-1, 0.96). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.

EXTRA SWINGS:

- Jeff Cinadr continued his scoreless streak by working 1.1 scoreless innings in relief of Rummel; He has not allowed a run in his last 10 innings of work

- The quality start marked the third in a row for the Crusher pitching staff

- Arden McWilliams and Eddie Tisdale each dropped down sacrifice bunts in the contest

- Washington Manager Darin Everson was ejected in the sixth inning
