Evansville Otters News Release

(SAUGET, Ill.)- The Gateway Grizzlies held an early 5-0 lead, lost it, and came back late for a 10th inning extra inning win against the Evansville Otters 7-6 on Tuesday night.

Evansville fell behind 5-0 in the first inning when Jareck West hit a two run single against Otter pitcher Jorge Lugo. The next batter, Justin Baum, then crushed a three-run home run as Gateway took an early 5-0 lead.

Just like on Monday, the Evansville Otters rallied on back. Jon Waltenbury walked with the bases loaded and Pat Rose hit a two run single to close the gap.

Down by two runs, Frank Meade changed all that in the next inning when the Evansville designated hitter hit a two-run home run to tie up the ballgame at five.

Brandon Cohen was then hit by a pitch in the sixth inning as Evansville completed the comeback to take the lead 6-5.

The Grizzlies tied up the game on an RBI groundout in the seventh inning as both bullpens battled into extra innings. Patrick Crider tossed two scoreless innings in his professional debut with the Otters as the Gateway relievers allowed just one run in 5 2/3 innings.

In the tenth inning, Estee Harris struck out and Charlie Lisk threw down to second base to complete the double play. Bobby Burk fielded the high throw and came down on top of the base to tag out Pat Rose.

Still tied at six, Gateway loaded up the bases in the bottom of the tenth inning on two walks and a throwing error by James Maxwell. Following an out, Adam Eggemeyer ripped the ball down the first base line, off of the first baseman's glove to win the game 7-6. The RBI was the first one for Eggemeyer this season.

Gateway improves to 14-10 on the season with the series-tying win. The Evansville Otters drop down to 10-13 in hopes of winning the series tomorrow night.

Both teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon in the series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 PM CST from GCS Stadium in Sauget, Illinois.

Fans can listen to the radio broadcast on WUEV 91.5 FM. The broadcast can also be heard on the WUEV online stream with Mike Radomski providing the play by play. The Evansville Otters pregame show will begin at 11:45 AM.
