Barrett Retires, Miners Sign Former Saluki Stalter

MARION, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners have announced that left-handed pitcher and Marion native Eric Barrett is retiring. To fill his spot on the roster, the Miners have signed former Southern Illinois University shortstop Michael Stalter.

Barrett was 1-0 with a 4.66 ERA in five relief appearances and one start this season. He signed with his hometown team prior to this season after three seasons with the Atlanta Braves organization. Barrett also played his college ball down the road from Rent One Park with John A. Logan College.

Stalter played two years at SIU and finished up his college career this spring. He hit .295 with three home runs and 31 RBIs in 57 games with the Salukis as a senior this spring. He was born in Hopedale, Ill., and will be active for Monday night's game, which would be his professional debut.
