LAST GAME RECAP: Portland led from start to finish Friday night at NYSEG Stadium, grabbing the series opener 4-1. Harol Gonzalez suffered his ninth Eastern League loss in as many starts - he allowed four runs in the first four innings. Binghamton collected five hits - all singles - and scored their lone run on an eighth-inning infield single from Jhoan Urena.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Mickey Jannis prepares for his 23rd Eastern League start of the season and third against Portland. Jannis is 3-1 over his last four starts, including a six-inning effort his last time out on August 27. The knuckleballer limited the Fisher Cats to three hits, while picking up five strikeouts. Jannis is 1-1 in his two starts against the Sea Dogs.
WELCOME HOME: In his first game at NYSEG Stadium, Ian Strom recorded his first Double-A hit with a 1-for-2 night. He also made a diving catch in the first inning and threw out a runner at home plate in the second inning.
AUGUST OVER: The Rumble Ponies finished August with a 14-15 mark, the third straight month with a losing record. Binghamton posted back-to-back winning records in April and May.
THAT'S A RELIEF: Stephen Nogosek and Matt Blackham combined to toss four scoreless innings out of the bullpen on Friday. The pair did not allow a hit in the effort.
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS: Since Binghamton's 16-2 win over Portland on July 16, the team's have played in four straight games decided by three or fewer runs. Neither team has scored more than four runs in the series since the Ponies 16-run outburst.
BIG MAC IN THE BIG APPLE: Jeff McNeil is hitting .319 through his first 36 games with the Mets. The infielder has collected 2 HR & 10 RBI, while also garnering a four-hit game. .
SEA-ING PORTLAND: The Rumble Ponies own the regular season series against the Sea Dogs, 11 games to nine. Portland would need to win the final three games of the season to win the season series.
SEPTEMBER CALL-UPS: The New York Mets announced their first round of September call-ups include former Rumble Ponies Tim Peterson and Eric Hanhold. Peterson posted a 1.14 ERA in 41 appearances with Binghamton last season, while Hanhold went 3-1 with a 2.84 ERA in 17 appearances with the Rumble Ponies this season.
UP NEXT: The Rumble Ponies and Sea Dogs continue their final series of the 2018 season on Sunday evening. RHP Franklyn Kilome toes the rubber for Binghamton against Portland RHP Teddy Stankiewicz. First pitch at NYSEG Stadium is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
