Stephan, Kamplain Blank Reading as Bats Come Alive Late

Trenton Thunder News Release
A Jorge Saez solo homer broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning, and Gosuke Katoh provided late insurance with a two-run double as the Thunder shut out the Reading Fightin Phils, 3-0, in front of a crowd of 6,155 at ARM & HAMMER Park on Saturday night.
The win, along with a New Hampshire Fisher Cats loss, gave the Thunder (77-61) sole possession of first place in the Eastern Division standings.
Trevor Stephan battled through five and one-third innings, allowing five hits but establishing a new double-A career-high with eight strikeouts to hold the Fightin Phils (64-71) at bay. Left-hander Justin Kamplain finished the game in relief, tossing three and two-third scoreless and hitless innings to record the win.
Kamplain's performance gave the Thunder bullpen a total of 28 consecutive scoreless innings pitched.
Tyler Viza took the tough-luck loss for Reading, pitching the complete game for his team and scattering five hits over his eight innings.
The Thunder managed just four baserunners through their first six innings at the plate before Saez's solo home run leading off the bottom of the seventh plated the game's first run. Trenton added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on a two-run double to right field by Gosuke Katoh, after Wendell Rijo and Chris Rabago had reached on an error and a walk, respectively.
Your Thunder continue their homestand on Sunday night at 7 p.m. against the Fightin Phils. RHP Jonathan Loaisiga (3-1, 3.93) will start for the Thunder, and RHP Harold Arauz (9-6, 4.68) will go for Reading. The first 1,000 fans ages 14 and older will receive a collectible truck, presented by ARM & HAMMER, and the evening will also feature a postgame Fireworks Spectacular. Tickets are available by phone at 609-394-3300 or online at TrentonThunder.com.
