
SeaWolves Fall to Ducks on Saturday Night

The SeaWolves dropped the second game of a four-game series to the Akron RubberDucks on Saturday night at UPMC Park, 6-4.
The Ducks jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against SeaWolves starter A.J. Ladwig. Ernie Clement led off with a single and stole second. He scored on a one-out Tyler Krieger base hit for a 1-0 lead.
Akron added to its lead in the third. Clement led off with a triple and scored on a one-out Krieger sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.
The SeaWolves cut into the lead in the last of the third. Cam Gibson singled with one out and moved into scoring position on a Sergio Alcantara base hit. Will Maddox singled home Gibson making it a 2-1 game.
The RubberDucks went back ahead by two runs in the top of the fourth. Jodd Carter led off with a triple and scored on a one-out Daniel Salters sacrifice fly for a 3-1 advantage.
Josh Lester led off the Erie fourth and brought the 'Wolves to within a run as he clubbed his team-leading 20th home run to make it 3-2.
Akron would increase the lead once again in the top of the sixth. Kreiger led off with a walk and scored on a Nellie Rodriguez double making it 4-2.
The RubberDucks grabbed their largest lead of the game in the top of the eighth against Erie reliever Mark Ecker. Andrew Calica and Kreiger each singled and Rodriguez walked to load the bases. With one out, Ecker walked Mark Mathias to plate Calica for a 5-2 Akron edge. Erie summoned lefty Caleb Thielbar who gave up a single to Salters that scored Krieger making it 6-2. Thielbar then struck out the next two batters to end the Akron threat.
The SeaWolves rallied in the last of the eighth. Maddox led off with a single off of reliever Preston Claiborne. With one out Akron brought in reliever Rob Kaminsky to face Lester. Lester singled up the middle for his third hit of the game and Dominic Ficociello followed with a walk, loading the bases. Jake Rogers singled home Maddox to make it 6-3. Troy Montgomery followed and hit into a fielder's choice that scored Lester to make it a two-run game at 6-4. Erie would get no closer.
Kaminsky would allow two baserunners to reach in the ninth before retiring the SeaWolves with the tying run left on base.
Plesac (3-1) earned the win for Akron allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in six innings.
Ladwig (4-2) took the loss allowing four runs on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts in seven innings.
The SeaWolves and RubberDucks meet in the third game of the series on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. at UPMC Park. It's Faith and Family Night with fireworks following the game presented by Bonnell's Auto Group.
