TONIGHT: The Binghamton Rumble Ponies and Portland Sea Dogs play the final game of their five-game series at NYSEG Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT: The Rumble Ponies defeated the Sea Dogs 7-2 Wednesday to snap a three-game skid and claim their first win at home in two weeks. RHP Mickey Jannis tossed a complete game and struck out 10 while only giving up two runs on four hits. The Ponies scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jacob Zanon and Cody Bohanek each drew bases-loaded walks. After a wild pitch scored the third run of the frame, Quinn Brodey belted a two-run single. Patrick Mazeika drove in the final run of the rally with an RBI double.
SENSATIONAL JANNIS: Mickey Jannis threw his fourth complete game Wednesday. It was his first of the season, and all four CGs have come with the Rumble Ponies (two in 2017 and one in 2018). Over his last four starts, the knuckleballer has allowed just three earned runs and struck out 37 over 30 innings. He had 10+ Ks three times in the four games, including a career-high 12 against Hartford on August 17.
BRODEY COMES THROUGH: Quinn Brodey went 2-5 with three RBI Wednesday night. It was his second three-RBI game since joining the Rumble Ponies. Over the last eight games, he is .314 (11-35) with six RBI, five runs scored and three doubles.
PONIES SNAP HOME LOSING STREAK: With the win Wednesday, Binghamton snapped a nine-game home losing streak. Their last win at NYSEG was August 13 in game one of a doubleheader against New Hampshire.
HOME VS. ROAD SPLIT: Wednesday was Binghamton's second win at home against Portland in 10 games. Meanwhile at Hadlock Field, the Rumble Ponies are 8-3.
ARIZONA CONNECTION: Both starting pitchers in tonight's game went to the University of Arizona. Tylor Megill played for the Wildcats in 2017 and 2018. Konner Wade spent three years in Tucson, suiting up for Arizona from 2011-13. Wade is also a native of Scottsdale, Arizona.
GONZALEZ HAGGERTY LEAD SYRACUSE METS: The Syracuse Mets defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 8-3 Wednesday to move a half game behind Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for first place in the International League North division with five games to go. RHP Harol Gonzalez improved to 5-0 at Triple-A as he went five innings and allowed two runs on five hits. Sam Haggerty went 2-2 with two RBI and one run scored.
COMING UP: The Ponies begin the final series of the season when they welcome the Hartford Yard Goats to NYSEG Stadium Friday at 7:05 PM.
