Goats a Smash Hit in Their Home Finale

HARTFORD - As it turns out, the Hartford Yard Goats were a smash hit on the field and at the gate in their 2019 home finale. Banging out a franchise-record 19 hits, including four home runs that tied a single-game franchise mark, the Yard Goats took the measure of the Harrisburg Senators, 10-4, Thursday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park, before a standing-room-only crowd of 6,850. Hartford took four of five games in the series from playoff bound Harrisburg (30-35). The Yard Goats finished with a home record of 38-32.
Attendance records fell for the Yard Goats in their home finale. The sellout was the club's 51st of the season, a record, as was the 29th consecutive sellout. The standing-room-only crowd was the 29th of the season, another club record. The Yard Goats' total 2019 attendance of 414,946 also established a new club record. The Yard Goats will lead the Eastern League in attendance and in per game average. It is also the second consecutive season Hartford has surpassed the 400,000 mark in season attendance, a record for a Connecticut sports franchise.
Yard Goats starter Antonio Santos, who turned in his second straight quality start, was the beneficiary of the Hartford offensive explosion. The 22-year-old right-hander allowed three runs on six hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out six to improve to 3-3.
Tyler Nevin, Mylz Jones, Vince Fernandez and Vance Vizcaino all homered for the Yard Goats. Jones, who had three hits, an RBI and two runs scored, tied the game in the first inning against Harrisburg starter Austin Voth, on a rehabilitation assignment for the Washington Nationals. After a Nevin double, Bret Boswell delivered a run-scoring single to give Hartford (35-33) a 2-1 lead in the first, and the Goats did not look back.
Every Hartford starter, except the pitcher, collected at least two hits and the Yard Goats collected at least one hit in every inning.
The Yard Goats broke open the game, chasing Voth with a four-run third inning on four hits. Voth lasted 2 1/3 innings and allowed six runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out three.
In addition to Jones, Nevin added a home run, double, RBI and three runs scored. Nevin, who has 13 home runs, has homered in four straight games. He went 8-for-18 in the series with four homers and nine RBI. Brian Serven and Alan Trejo each added three hits.
Former Washington National Michael Taylor collected four doubles for Harrisburg, which won the season series over Hartford, 9-8.
The Yard Goats wrap up their season with four games at Binghamton, beginning Friday night at 7:05 p.m. LH Matt Whitehouse will pitch for Hartford against LH David Peterson for the Mets' affiliate. The game will be broadcast on 100.9 FM, 1410 AM and on line at newsradio1410.iheart.com and milb.com.
