RubberDucks Ride Last Rally to 7-4 Victory
April 18, 2019 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
The RubberDucks and Baysox traded runs in the early innings, holding a 1-1 tie until the fifth inning when Mitch Longo laced a two-run triple into the left-center field gap, making the score 4-1 Akron. However, the Baysox tied the game with one run in the sixth inning and two in the seventh before the RubberDucks scored three decisive runs in the eighth inning with timely hitting and capitalizing on a Bowie error to grab a 7-4 win in Akron on Thursday at Canal Park.
Turning Point
The eighth inning was pivotal for the RubberDucks as they snapped a 4-4 tie and retook the lead on a flurry of singles and a Bowie error, which gave Akron a 7-4 lead. That would be enough for the RubberDucks to hold on and close out the Bowie Baysox to earn their 5th win of the season.
Mound Presence
RubberDucks starter Matt Solter was terrific in his second start of the season, striking out 10 batters in five innings, allowing only four hits and he didn't walk a batter. The Akron bullpen struggled in the sixth and seventh innings, allowing three runs in relief of Solters. James Karinchak entered in the ninth inning and slammed the door shut for the RubberDucks, striking out three out of the four batters he faced and earning the save.
Duck Tales
The Ducks bats have warmed up with the weather, scoring at least five runs in the past five games and continued the trend Thursday. Mitch Longo came through for the RubberDucks with a two-run triple in the fifth inning and he also scored on the play on a throwing error. All nine Akron starters got hits, including three by Andruw Monasterio, who is now hitting .333 on the year, and two each by Connor Marabell and Alexis Pantoja, who had a double.
