The Akron RubberDucks closed out its regular season home schedule with a 2-1 win behind a stellar outing by starter Mike Clevinger over the Erie SeaWolves at Canal Park Thursday night

Turning Point

Akron went up 2-0 in the fifth inning on Yhoxian Medina's sacrifice fly, scoring catcher Jeremy Lucas, who led off the inning with a double to center field.

Mound Presence

Mike Clevinger made his final start of the season and picked up his ninth win by allowing one run on four hits over seven innings pitched. He walked one batter and fanned seven. The run came in the sixth inning when Wynton Bernard tripled to center field and scored on a wild pitch. Clevinger face more than four hitters in just one inning (the fifth) and face the minimum in four of his seven frames. Nick Maronde relieved Clevinger with a perfect eighth inning, which included a strikeout, and Jeff Johnson closed it out in the ninth for his 25th save in 26 chances.

Duck Tales

Akron had eight hits on the night, led by three Carlos Moncrief singles. Nellie Rodriguez doubled in the second and scored on Jordan Smith's RBI double. The other RBI on the night came on Medina's fifth-inning sacrifice fly.

Notes

Clevinger finished the night as the Eastern League's leader in strikeouts with 145 and in opponents' batting average at .219. His 2.73 ERA on the year ranks sixth in the league...Jeremy Lucas extended his hitting streak to nine games with his fifth-inning double, going 10-for-30 (.333) during the streak...Johnson lowered his season ERA to 1.09 and saved his 25th game in 26 chances, which ranks second in the league...Bryson Myles extended his hitting streak to seven by going 1-for-2 with a walk and he was hit by a pitch for a league-leading 13th time...The RubberDucks have won two straight, and with Altoona losing and Richmond winning, Akron is now two games behind Altoona for the final playoff spot in the EL's Western Division with four games remaining. They're tied with Richmond for third place, with the Flying Squirrels holding the tiebreaker.
