Offense Backs Brault's Gem as Curve Blank B-Mets

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Lefty Steven Brault rolled through eight innings as the Altoona Curve held the Binghamton Mets scoreless in an 8-0 win on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium.

The shutout win for the Curve (73-66) was the 16th the season, extending a franchise record. The B-Mets (75-63) were held to just three hits on the night.

With the win, the Curve trimmed their magic number to two to clinch a postseason spot.

Brault (Win, 9-3) set a new career high with his eight innings pitched, allowing just three hits and no walks with five strikeouts. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs in the game.

Altoona jumped on Binghamton starter Robert Gsellman (Loss, 7-7) in the first inning with a two-run single by Jacob Stallings.

In the second inning, Adam Frazier brought in a run on a fielder's choice and Jose Osuna followed with a two-run single to extend the Curve advantage to 5-0.

Max Moroff doubled in a run in the fourth and Stetson Allie launched a solo home run in the fifth to push to lead to 7-0.

Austin Meadows led off the ninth with a triple and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Erich Weiss.

Brault is now 8-0 with a 0.96 ERA over his last ten starts since July 18. His three hits raised his batting average to .438.

The Curve and B-Mets play the second of the four-game series on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. Lefty Zack Dodson (7-10, 3.83) takes the mound Altoona, countered by Binghamton righty Rainy Lara (8-5, 3.53). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
