Fightin Phils Knapp Named Eastern League Player of the Month

Reading Fightin Phils catcher Andrew Knapp has been selected as Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of August. He becomes the first Fightins player to win the honor since pitcher Jesse Biddle won in April 2013.

In 25 August games, Knapp batted .404 (40-for-99) with nine doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 28 RBIs, 23 runs scored, one stolen base, a .469 on-base percentage and a .758 slugging percentage. The 23-year old began a 16-game hitting on July 31st that carried through the first 15 games of the month. He went on to reach base in 24 out of the 25 games he played in during the month. He also had 13 multiple hit games during the month, including going 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs in Reading's 11-1 win at Trenton on August 5th.

Among Eastern League players in August, Knapp led all Eastern League players in batting average (.404), extra-base hits (18), total bases (75), home runs (8), on-base percentage (.469), slugging percentage (.758) and OPS (1.227) and tied for the league lead in RBIs (28). He also finished ranked among the monthly league leaders in runs scored (23-3rd), hits (40-tied 3rd) and doubles (9-tied 5th).

Knapp, who is a native of Roseville, California, was also selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of August 3rd-August 9th. Since being promoted to Reading from Single-A Clearwater on June 25th, Knapp is hitting .364 with 21 doubles, 11 home runs, 56 RBIs and 39 runs scored in 53 games with the Fightins

Knapp was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round of the 2013 draft after hitting .350 with 16 doubles, eight homers and 41 RBIs and being named First Team All-Pac 12 during his junior season at the University of California.
