Fields Steals Home for Fisher Cats

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
TRENTON, NJ - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats started their final series of the 2015 season with a defeat, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Trenton Thunder on Friday night at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton.
The Fisher Cats (66-70) recorded only two hits in the game, and none after the third inning. They were outhit 16-2 by the Thunder (70-68), who only had three runs to show for all those hits. New Hampshire center fielder Roemon Fields stole home in the first inning, marking the first time a Fisher Cat had done that since Brian Bocock achieved it on July 23, 2012.
The Fisher Cats drew first blood in the top of the first inning against Trenton starter Rookie Davis (W, 2-1). Fields reached on an error by third baseman Jose Rosario, and moved to second on a bunt single by Jorge Flores. When Dwight Smith, Jr. forced Flores at second on a fielder's choice, Fields moved to third base, putting runners on the corners with one out. As K.C. Hobson swung and missed for a strike, Smith broke for second, drawing a throw. He retreated to first as Fields sped home, scoring the first run of the game and putting the Fisher Cats ahead 1-0.
Trenton got in front in the bottom of the fifth against Fisher Cats starting pitcher Casey Lawrence (L, 12-13). Francisco Arcia singled to lead off the frame, and moved up to second on a wild pitch by Lawrence. Dan Fiorito doubled him home, scoring two batters later on a single by Danny Oh to put Trenton ahead 2-1. Trenton tacked on an insurance run two innings later, as Jake Skole sliced a single to right to score Oh and extend the Trenton lead to 3-1.
Lawrence took the loss for New Hampshire, allowing three runs on a walk and a team-record 16 hits over seven innings while fanning three. The accumulated hits surpassed the previous mark of 15, set by A.J. Wideman on April 19, 2008. Chris Smith sparkled in his New Hampshire debut, striking out the side in the eighth inning.
TheFisher Cats will take on the Thunder in a twinbill Saturday, with southpaw Luis Perez starting the first game for New Hampshire against Trenton lefty Caleb Smith. First pitch is at 6:00 p.m., with Ben Gellman's pregame show starting at 6:45 p.m. on the Fisher Cats Radio Network and online at www.nhfishercats.com.
