Victoria Royals News Release
Spokane, WA- The Victoria Royals allowed an early third period marker in a 2-1 loss to the Spokane Chiefs, in a contest that showcased both teams' goaltenders on Friday night.
Both goalies were solid in a game that saw multiple scoring chances, but an early third period powerplay marker by the Chiefs' Kailer Yamamoto proved to be the difference. Victoria tied the contest late in the middle frame when Tyler Soy stripped the puck from Spokane netminder Tyson Verhelst behind the net and fed Jared Dmytriw for the goal. The Chiefs' Keanu Yamamoto scored the game's first marker.
Victoria goaltender Coleman Vollrath turned away 35 of the 37 shots he faced. Spokane's Verhelst stopped 31 of the 32 shots directed at him.
The Royals went 0/6=0.0% on the powerplay, while the Chiefs went 1/6=16.7% on the night.
Victoria will cap off their four-game road trip against the Spokane Chiefs tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
The Royals return home on Tuesday, October 27th against the Lethbridge Hurricanes for Winter Driving Awareness Night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
