EVERETT, Wash. - Adin Hill recorded 31 saves for his second shutout of the season, lifting the Portland Winterhawks over the Everett Silvertips, 2-0 before 3,623 fans at XFINITY Arena on Friday.

The Silvertips, who entered tonight with the least amount of games played in the WHL this season (and played just four times in the last 26 days), dropped their second straight loss despite a 25 save effort from Carter Hart.

Coming out of the six-day layoff, the Silvertips stormed Portland's zone for five of the game's first six shots and eventually led, 11-3. But on a sluggish line change, Colton Veloso converted Rodrigo Abols' backdoor feed at the right post for a 1-0 lead at 11:16 of the first period.

Hill was busy facing 16 shots in the first period but turned them all away - the most threatening chance coming from two close-range rebounds involving Dawson Leedahl with 10 minutes left. The Silvertips, entering the game with the league's second most efficient power play unit, fell short on their first two opportunities which included over 1:30 of time on fresh ice to begin the second period. Portland took advantage and limited the Silvertips to five shots in the second period, but Hill had to be sharp on a Patrick Bajkov shorthanded break and turned the bid away on Bajkov's backhander.

Everett came back and generated several good looks at the net in the third period, including a scramble at Hill's blocker side after Cole MacDonald wired a point shot through traffic, but Hill barely speared the loose puck with over 13 mintues to play. The Silvertips managed to earn a face-off in the offensive zone with less than 2:30 left in regulation, and paired a timeout with a dispatched extra attacker.

Three good looks at the Winterhawks net, including a bid by Carson Stadnyk in the slot, defined the Silvertips rally but a clearing attempt by Portland found Dominic Turgeon at the Silvertips blueline. He stashed his fourth goal of the season, an empty netter with 13.1 seconds to play, for a 2-0 lead.

The Silvertips fell to 1-2-0 in the season series with Portland.

NOTES: The Silvertips scratched Mackenzie Dwyer, Sean Mallonee, Spencer Gerth and Dario Winkler ... the Silvertips outshot Portland, 31-27 ... Hart has started in all three games of the series and carries a .931 save percentage against Portland this season ... the meeting was the first between the teams at XFINITY Arena (besides preseason) since last year's second round postseason series ... the Silvertips opened a four-game homestand and have started a stretch of ten games at XFINITY Arena.
