The Portland Winterhawks (3-6) earned a 2-0 shutout win in Everett Friday over the Silvertips (4-3).

Winterhawks goaltender Adin Hill stopped all 31 shots he faced to pick up his second shutout of the season and the fourth of his career. His two shutouts in seven games matches the number he had in 46 appearances last season.

Midway through the first the Hawks struck first when Colton Veloso scored his second goal of the season for a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Carter Czaikowski registered an assist on the play, his first career WHL point.

It remained 1-0 through the end of the first and a scoreless second. Late in the third Everett pulled netminder Carter Hart as they battled for the tying goal. With Everett pressing, Hawks forward Rodrigo Abols did yeoman's work to get the puck out of the defensive zone. From there Dominic Turgeon picked up the puck and scored into the empty net to round out the scoring at 2-0.

While Hill finished with the shutout, Hart made 25 saves on 26 Portland shots, with the Tips then allowing an empty net goal.

The Hawks, playing their first set of three games in three days this season, will be in Tri-Cities tomorrow to take on the Americans. They'll return home Sunday to meet the Brandon Wheat Kings at 5 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
