Vancouver Giants News Release

Vancouver, B.C - Captain Tyler Benson made his much anticipated debut for the Vancouver Giants on Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum in a losing cause, as the G-Men dropped a 3-1 decision to the Seattle Thunderbirds. The Giants got their lone goal from Benson.

The Giants and T-Birds renewed their rivalry in the opening frame. Dakota Odgers and Keegan Kolesar dropped the gloves, with both landing a few blows. Then Josh Thrower and Luke Osterman went toe to toe where heavy punches were landed from both sides.

The T-Birds opened the scoring early in the second period. Alexander True cashed in on Payton Lee when he knocked the puck through the feet of the Vancouver goaltender after he misplayed the puck. Mathew Barzal extended the T-Birds lead to 2-0, scoring on the power play from the top of the circle later in the period.

With four minutes left in the third period, Benson cut the T-Birds lead to 2-1 with his first of the year, after he banked the puck in from beside the net off T-Birds' goalie Taz Burman. But seconds later, Seattle would restore their two goal lead with a goal from Keegan Kolesar.

Lee stopped 35 of the 38 shots in the Vancouver net while Burman turned aside 21 of 22 shots for Seattle.

The Giants are back in action Sunday afternoon for Joe Carter Day as they'll host the Prince George Cougars. 150 fans in attendance will win a meet and greet with the Blue Jays' World Series Hero! Puck drop is at 2:00pm. For tickets, visit TicketLeader.ca or call 604-4-GIANTS.
