2015-16 So Far: The Broncos are 4-6-2-0 after 11 games. They are 2-3-0-0 at home and 2-4-2-0 on the road.
Last Night: The Broncos lost 3-2 in overtime in Lethbridge. Jon Martin and Jake Debrusk had the Bronco goals. Debrusk's goal game with just over 4 minutes left in regulation while shorthanded to force overtime. Landon Bow made 37 saves for Swift.
Jensen sits out his 2nd: Kade Jensen was suspended 2 games after a cross check in Wednesday's game in Moose Jaw. Jensen sat out last night in Lethbridge and will serve his second game tonight.
VS Moose Jaw: This is the 2nd meeting of the season between the two teams. Moose Jaw earned a 6-1 win Wednesday night in Moose Jaw. Last season the teams had mirror 3-3-0-0 records.
Leaders: Jon Martin leads the team and league in goal scoring with 13. With 21 points, Martin is 4th in WHL scoring.
Martin leads the team in plus/minus with a 6.
Jake Debrusk is 2nd in team scoring with 5 goals and 9 assists in 10 games.
Rookie defenseman Artyom Minulin is 2nd on the team in plus/minus with 5.
Landon Bow leads the league in saves with 362 and is third in minutes played with 569.
Max Lajoie, Jake Debrusk and Calvin Spencer share the team lead in power play goals with 2. Kade Jensen leads the team in penalty minutes with 23.
Impact Upon Arrival: Winnipeg native Jon Martin has 10 goals and 7 assists in his first seven games as a Bronco. Martin was acquired from the Kootenay Ice in exchange for a 4th round WHL Bantam Draft pick in 2016.
Special Teams: The Bronco Power play is 25% (11/44) which is 6th best in the WHL. The penalty kill is 35/42 which is 4th best in the league at 83.3%.
Moose Jaw's power play is 12/39 which is 3rd best in the league at 31%. The Warrior PK is 44/52 which is 4th best in the WHL at 84.6%.
Debrusk to take on Russians: Bronco forward Jake Debrusk has been invited to be a part of Team WHL during the CHL Canada Russia Series. Team WHL will face team Russia November 9th in Kelowna and November 10th in Kamloops.
Broncos Prospects playing for Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup: October 28th in Calgary, teams from the Prairie provinces and BC will compete for the Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup. Two Bronco prospects will be a part of that tournament. Josh Prokop will play for Team Alberta, and Riley Stotts will suit up for Team Manitoba. Both players were selected in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.
Max Gets an A: Max Lajoie has received an A level rating by NHL Central Scouting. Lajoie is a late birthday 1997 born player who is draft eligible in 2016.
Broncos Name Leadership Group: The Swift Current Broncos have named their leadership group for 2015-16. The team will forego have a captain while giving alternate captain status to Jake Debrusk, Scott Feser, Glenn Gawdin and Max Lajoie.
Drafted Broncos: Glenn Gawdin was selected in the 4th round by the St. Louis Blues in 2015. Jake Debrusk was a 2015 first round pick of the Boston Bruins.
Who's the Best? The WHL recently named it's Top 125 players of all time. Fans can vote for their favorites. After fan voting, the greatest all time player in the WHL will be named this season. Former Broncos on the list are: Cody Eakin, Dan Lambert, Adam Lowry, Joe Sakic, Brian Sakic, Bryan Trottier and Tiger Williams.
NHL Camps: The Broncos sent 4 players to NHL camps. Kade Jensen was reassigned back to Swift Current from Chicago Blackhawks rookie camp. Landon Bow attended Anaheim Ducks rookie camp and main camp before returning to Swift Current. Glenn Gawdin was in St. Louis Blues camp. Jake Debrusk returned from Boston Bruins Camp earlier this week.
Dillon Heatherington and Brett Lernout have signed contracts with their respective NHL teams (Columbus and Montreal) and are not expected back in the WHL.
2014-15 Stats: Regular season record was 34-33-1-4. For the 3rd year in a row the team finished with a record above 500
-Made the playoffs seeded third in the east division. Lost to second place Regina in 4 games.
-The Broncos power-play was 7th overall in the league running at 22%.
-The Broncos penalty kill was 8th in the league operating at 81.2%
INDIVIDUAL STATS AND HIGHLIGHTS: Jake Debrusk led the team in scoring (42 goals, 39 assists, 81 points)
-Brett Lernout led the team in scoring by defensemen with 14 goals and 28 assists for 42 points in 72 games.
-Max Lajoie led the team in Rookie scoring (7 goals, 34 assists, 41 points)
-Colby Cave, Jake Debrusk, Glenn Gawdin, Brett Lernout, Max Lajoie, Cavin Leth and Tyler Steenbergen played all 72 games.
-Jake Debrusk was sixth in the WHL in goals with 42. Colby Cave was 15th with 35.
-Jake Debrusk was fifth in the league for powerplay goals with 13. Colby Cave was 6th with 12.
-Max Lajoie had the league's 7th best shoot-out percentage with .667
-Max Lajoie was 10th in rookie scoring with 41 points. That was 2nd best in the league for rookie defensemen.
The Roster: The Broncos have 24 players on their roster.
Imports are Andreas Schumacher from Sweden and Artyom Minulin from Russia.
20 year olds are Jon Martin, Scott Feser and Landon Bow.
