Royals Sign Goaltender Kenny Reiter

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL, today announced that the team has signed goaltender Kenny Reiter to an ECHL Standard Players Contract.

Reiter (5'11/181) (28), who hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, returns to pro action after undergoing off-season surgery. Last season, his second as a pro, Reiter played twenty-five games for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL and compiled a record of 10-11-2 with a 3.04 goals against average and an .897 save percentage with one shutout; and, in January of last year, earned an NHL-AHL two-way contract with the New York Islanders. He split his rookie season (2012-13) between the Sound Tigers and the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL. While with Fort Wayne, Reiter, who was named the ECHL's Goaltender of the Month for January (2013), appeared in twenty-four games, going 14-7-1 with a 2.72 goals against average and .916 save percentage. During that stint with the Komets, he appeared in one game against Reading, a 6-4 win for the Royals on December 14, 2012 in which Reiter made 32 saves. During his time with the Sound Tigers in the AHL that year, he went 0-5-2 (2.53 gaa / .916 save %).

Prior to turning pro, Reiter had an exceptional collegiate career at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, which included leading the Bulldogs to the 2011 NCAA Division I National Championship in his junior season. In his senior year, during which he established a team record by putting together a consecutive scoreless streak of 166:45, Reiter compiled the fourth best win percentage (.684) amongst goaltenders in the NCAA with a record of 23-9-6. That year, after earning the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week award three separate times, he was named to the WCHA All-Second Team. By the time Reiter had completed his collegiate career, he had established the school record for career goals against average (2.38) and save percentage (.912) and tied the school record with nine career shutouts. A four-time selection to the WCHA All-Time Academic Team, Reiter received the E.L. "˜Duce' Rasmussen Award as the school's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012.
