Kansas City Mavericks News Release
Independence, MO - The Missouri Mavericks (15-19-2-2, 34 points) put together a complete game on Friday night to begin their seven-game home stand with a 4-2 win over the Tulsa Oilers (19-19-1-3, 42 points) at Independence Events Center.
Missouri began their second half of the season on Friday night and a seven-game home stand that will run until February 10th. The win was the first on home ice for the Mavericks since December 19th, a span of seven games (0-6-0-1) and it moves the team's home record to 7-11-0-1 on the season.
The Mavericks received goals from four different scorers and never trailed as they handed the visiting Oilers their third straight loss and pulled to within eight points in the standings of Tulsa with four games in hand.
Josh Brittain started the scoring with the game's only first period goal scored at the 9:48 mark. It was the 14th goal of the season for Brittain with Sebastien Thinel and Patch Alber drawing the assists.
Tulsa would tie the game at the 13:00 mark of the second period behind Drew Fisher's 14th goal of the season but the Mavs would answer just 30 seconds later with Thinel scoring his 11th goal of campaign, assisted by Brittain and newcomer Geoff Walker.
The Mavs would add to their lead in the third period behind Jack Downing's fifth goal of the season, assisted by Landon Oslanski, making the score 3-1.
Walker would conclude a memorable first night with the Mavs by connecting on an empty-net goal at the 18:46 mark. Walker was acquired via trade from Ontario early this week and the goal gives him 13 on the season. Alex Lepkowski and Thinel earned assists on the Walker goal lifting Thinel to a three-point night (1-23).
Kyle O'Kane added a late goal for Tulsa, his 13th of the season, cutting the Mavs lead in half but it was as close as the Oilers would get.
Mike Clemente was outstanding in net making a season-high 37 saves and improving his season record to 7-11-0-1. The win ended a personal three-game losing streak for Clemente.
The two rivals combined for 90 penalty minutes in the game with the Mavs penalty kill proving to be outstanding thwarting all six chances for the Oilers dangerous attack. Missouri finished the game 0 for 3 with the man advantage.
The Mavericks have owned the Oilers in the season series winning five of the six meetings thus far.
Missouri's seven-game home stand continues tomorrow night when the Mavs host the Quad City Mallards. Face-off is set for 7:05 PM (CST) at Independence Events Center. Single game tickets are available for purchase online at TicketMaster.com or in-person at the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office at Independence Events Center.
