Vancouver Giants News Release

Victoria, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants were held off the scoreboard for the first time this season, falling 8-0 to the Victoria Royals at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Saturday night.

The Giants outshot the Royals 11-7 in the first period, but it was Victoria that took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame when Tyler Soy scored his 23rd goal of the season on a deke after taking a pass from Joe Hicketts.

The Royals scored three times in the second period to extend their lead to 4-0. Vladimir Bobylev wired a shot off the cross bar and in from the slot before Matthew Phillips scored on a great individual effort, and Dante Hannoun beat Vancouver starter Jake Morrissey on a power play in the final minute of the stanza.

Victoria added four goals in the third period as both Phillips and Soy scored their second goals of the night while Ethan Price added two of his own in the late stages.

The Giants and Royals will go head-to-head again tomorrow afternoon in Victoria. Puck drop is at 2:00pm.
