Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Regina, SK. - The Brandon Wheat Kings improved their league leading road record to 16-6-1-0 Sunday afternoon with an impressive 4-0 victory over the hometown Pats in Regina.

Florida Panthers' prospect Jayce Hawryluk scored twice and netminder Jordan Papirny turned aside 22 shots for his fifth shutout of the season and 11th of his Western Hockey League career.

That moves the 19-year old Edmonton product into a tie with Andrew Hayes for second place on the club's all time list for shutouts. Only Tyler Plante (12) had more as a member of the WHL club. For Papirny, it was his third shutout in his last four appearances.

Both of Hawryluk's goals came in the opening period as the Wheat Kings won for the third time in as many days.

Tyler Coulter in the second and Reid Duke, with his team leading 26th goal of the season, rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who improved to 30-13-2-2 on the season. With 64 points, the Eastern Division leading Wheat Kings lead the second place Prince Albert Raiders by seven.

A fifth round draft choice of the Minnesota Wild, Duke enjoyed an outstanding weekend, scoring five times and now has 44 points in 46 games this season.

Among the keys to the win - Brandon's special teams. While three of the four games came on the powerplay, the Wheat Kings managed to kill off both penalties and during the weekend road trip, they were successful in killing off all 12 opposition powerplays.

During this past weekend, the Wheat Kings outscored their Eastern Division rivals to the tune of 13-2, in beating Prince Albert, Saskatoon and the Pats.

Brandon is currently in a stretch that will see the Wheat Kings play seven straight games on the road. Next action for the Wheat Kings is Friday night when they travel to Edmonton to meet the Oil Kings.

They don't play at home until Friday, February 5th when the Prince George Cougars pay a visit to Westman Place.

Tickets to that game go back on sale Monday morning at the Keystone Centre box office. Fans can also order online at keystonecentre.com or by calling (204) 726-3555.
