Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Saskatoon, SK. - The Brandon Wheat Kings winning ways in Saskatoon continued Saturday night as they dumped the hometown Blades 6-2.

Reid Duke scored three times - his second hat trick of the season - as the Wheat Kings won at SaskTel Centre for the tenth straight time.

After giving up the game's first goal, the Wheat Kings scored four straight times and never looked back as they improved to 29-13-2-2 on the season and 15-6-1-0 on the road, which leads the Western Hockey League.

Duke leads the Wheat Kings in scoring this season with 25 goals and he combined with linemates John Quenneville and Tim McGauley for seven points on the night.

"He was good, their line was good. Tim McGauley was good as was John Quenneville, and they should be good. That's three high-end players that all have good size, real good skill and look to be developing some chemistry here as we move along," Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon said on CKLQ's post-game show, "That's a hard line to handle when they have their feet moving and keep the game simple."

With the win, Brandon moved five points up on second place Prince Albert in the Eastern Division as the Raiders dropped a 4-2 decision to the Pats in Regina.

Jayce Hawryluk with two and Quenneville rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who received an 18-save effort from rookie netminder Logan Thompson in what was his first start since December 29th.

Cameron Hebig scored both goals in a losing effort for the Blades, who trailed 2-1 and 5-2 at the period breaks.

Saturday's game was the first between the two teams since an early January trade that saw Brandon send Braylon Shmyr and disgruntled blueliner Colton Waltz to the Blades in exchange for blueliners Schael Higson and Mitch Wheaton.

The Wheat Kings will close out their 3-game in three day Saskatchewan road trip Sunday afternoon with a game in Regina.

Brandon is currently in a stretch that will see the Wheat Kings play seven straight games on the road. They don't play at home until Friday, February 5th when the Prince George Cougars pay a visit to Westman Place.
