Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period, and held off a Prince George Cougars' comeback for a 4-3 win on Sunday afternoon.
Victoria was led offensively by Vladimir Bobylev who recorded a three point night (1g-2a), while Alex Forsberg and Jack Walker added markers of their own. Royals' rookie Scott Walford scored the game winner, his first WHL goal, with a shot from the blueline. The Cougars' Brad Morrison scored two goals, and Luke Harrison also tallied for the visitors.
Victoria's Coleman Vollrath started in net and made 15 saves on 18 shots in the win. Prince George netminder Nick McBride stopped six of the nine pucks he faced before being replaced by Ty Edmonds, who made 21 saves in relief.
With the victory, the Royals recorded their 10th consecutive win and became the first team in the 2015-16 season to have earned 100 points. Victoria has now matched the club record for most points in a season, which was set in the 2013-14 campaign.
The Royals went 1/3=33.3% on the man-advantage, while Prince George did not receive a powerplay in today's game.
Victoria will now head on the road to face the BC Division rival Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday night for the final time in the regular season. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The Royals return home on Saturday, March 19th to wrap up the regular season with a match against the Everett Silvertips on Fan Appreciation Night. Puck drop slated for 7:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Select Your Tickets Box Office, over the phone by calling 250-220-7889 or by visiting www.selectyourtickets.com.
