The Portland Winterhawks (34-30-4-0) dropped a 3-2 decision to the Seattle Thunderbirds (42-23-3-0) Saturday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in front of 8,455 fans.

Seattle struck first 1:01 into the game when Nolan Volcan scored for an early 1-0 lead, but the Hawks responded at 8:33 on a power play when a great passing sequence ended with Dominic Turgeon firing it past Landon Bow to even the game at 1-1, which remained the score heading into the second.

Seattle regained a lead 6:54 into the second on a goal by Ryan Gropp as they made it 2-1. The Hawks fought back again, tying it at 13:36 when Rodrigo Abols tipped one just inside the post to even the score at 2-2.

Seattle got the lead back with a late goal from Donovan Neuls to make it 3-2 going into the third. The Hawks kept up the pressure throughout the third period, but the Thunderbirds skated away with the 3-2 win.

Adin Hill made 44 saves on 47 shots he faced from Seattle.

The Hawks will be back in action tomorrow when they take on the Everett Silvertips at the Coliseum at 5 p.m.
