March 13, 2016 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release

KENNEWICK Wash. - Goaltender Nicholas Sanders came within nine seconds of his first shutout and Morgan Geekie posted a pair of assists to lead the Tri-City Americans past the Everett Silvertips, 4-1, in wire-to-wire fashion on Saturday before 4,248 fans at Toyota Center.

Carter Hart produced several timely stops early in the game and made 21 saves while Patrick Bajkov broke a Silvertips goal-scoring slump of six straight scoreless periods with his 18th goal.

The Silvertips cashed in help from a Portland Winterhawks loss shortly after their conclusion to clinch home ice advantage in the opening round of the WHL Playoffs.

Hart's marquee save in the first period came on a backdoor re-direction by Geekie in the first few minutes, but Brandon Carlo's deflection off Hart's back put Tri-City up 1-0 with 3:20 left in the first period.

Parker AuCoin then deposited a giveaway by Hart, from the left circle, into an empty net for a 2-0 edge at 6:14 of the second period and Jordan Roy expanded the cushion to 3-0 with a rebound goal at 2:04 of the third period.

Opportunity came in a five-minute major penalty for Parker Bowles' slash on Dario Winkler, but the Silvertips fell short in materializing a consistent threat throughout the entire sequence. Hart was then lifted for a sixth attacker with 4:14 left in regulation, producing several high-quality looks at the Americans net. But Jordan Topping delivered a 4-0 lead on an empty netter with 3:43 to go.

Bajkov spoiled Sanders' shutout bid with a wrist shot from the right circle.
