Cincinnati, OH - The Reading Royals of the ECHL (2-1-0), affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, defeated the Cincinnati Cyclones (1-1-1), 3-0, in Game Three of the best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarter Final Series at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. The win, which came in the fifth playoff shutout in team history, gave the Royals a two-games-to-one lead in the series.

Royals' goaltender Matt Dalton (win, 2-1-0; 28/28) not only registered his first pro playoff shutout, but also assisted on the game winning goal. Brian Foster (loss, 1-1-1; 13/15, 1 eng) sustained his first regulation loss in four starts in the regular season and playoffs against the Royals. Reading's power play was held off the board for the second time in three games in the series (0-3). Cincinnati had three power play chances, as well (0-3).

Reading struck 4:57 into the first when Dalton gained possession of the puck behind the Royals' net and banked a perfect pass to Matt Caruana, who took control in the d-zone and carried the length of the ice. As Caruana cut down the slot in Cincinnati's end, he attempted to dish to Andrew Sarauer who had joined the rush on the left side. Instead, the puck caromed off a Cyclone skate and ended up back on the stick of Caruana, who drilled a point-blank bullet high glove side for his second of the playoff season.

Despite getting outshot 9-3 in the second period, Reading got the only goal of the second frame. Olivier Labelle fed Yannick Riendeau, who weaved his way to a spot in the right circle where he turned and passed towards the low slot. The puck hit another Cyclone skate, and Ryan Cruthers alertly corralled the puck, turned and ripped a quick snap shot low blocker on Foster for his second of the playoffs 11:07 into the second.

Reading played a smart, simple, solid third period-and got a couple big stops from Dalton when they needed them-to hold off the Cyclone push in the final twenty minutes. The Royals' Andrew Sarauer added an empty netter with 1:05 remaining in regulation on the team's fourth shot of the period to ice it.

The Royals and Cyclones go at again tomorrow (Saturday, April 9, 2011 @ 7:35 pm) at U.S. Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio, in Game Four of the best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarter-Final series.
