ECHL Attendance Ends Season on High Note

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL regular season ended last weekend on a high note as two teams set new single-game attendance records.

Utah had a standing-room only crowd of 10,700 fans at its game on Friday against Bakersfield, breaking the previous mark of 10,020 set last season. The Grizzlies averaged 8,748 fans for their final three home games last week.

Kalamazoo welcomed a standing-room only crowd of its own for its home finale against Elmira on Saturday as 5,413 were at Wings Stadium, breaking the previous mark of 5,113 that had been set once last season and matched last Wednesday.

Five teams increased their average attendance over last season, led by Utah which saw an increase of 10.5 percent from its 2009-10 average at Maverik Center. The Grizzlies set a team record with a total attendance of 163,813. Cincinnati, which increased attendance at U.S. Bank Arena by 5.8 percent, has improved its attendance for four consecutive seasons. The Cyclones also set a new team record as 149,141 fans came through the turnstiles this season.

Stockton saw an increase of 5.8 percent over last season, and finished the season second in the league with an average of 6,382 per game. The Thunder have averaged over 6,000 fans per game in each of their six seasons in the league. Stockton led the ECHL in attendance for its first four seasons before finishing third in 2009-10.

For the second consecutive season, Ontario led the ECHL in attendance with an average of 6,683 per game, an increase of 3.6 percent over last season. The Reign have drawn 683,620 fans over their first three seasons in the league.

Idaho was the final team to see an increase over last season with an improvement of 1.8 percent.

The league's newest team, the Greenville Road Warriors, drew 131,536 fans to BI-LO Center, an increase of 78.0 percent over the 2009-10 season in Johnstown, and a 6.1 percent improvement over the Greenville Grrrowl's attendance in their final season in 2005-06.

Overall in 2010-11, the ECHL drew 2,967,752 fans at 684 games for an average of 4,338 per game. It is the seventh consecutive season, and the 19th time in the last 21 seasons, that the ECHL has averaged over 4,000 fans per game.
