Victoria Royals News Release

Kennewick, WA - In a Tuesday night matchup at the Toyota Center the Victoria Royals took on the Tri-City Americans in the Royals' third game of a four game road trip. Victoria gave Keith Hamilton the start in net, while Tri-City countered with Eric Comrie.

The Royals received an early 5-on-3 man advantage after back-to-back Americans' penalties less than five minutes into the game. On the two man advantage, Robin Soudek fed a nice pass to Kevin Sundher to the right of the net. Sundher then quickly one-timed the puck past Comrie at 4:21 for his fifth of the season. Just over a minute later at 5:31 Victoria found their second power play goal on Soudek's 10th of the year. From the right circle, Sundher found Soudek in the slot, who snapped a shot through the legs of the Tri-City goaltender. The Americans looked to pull back into the game on multiple scoring opportunities throughout the remainder of the frame, but Hamilton made several quality saves to preserve the two goal lead. Victoria held a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

The Royals increased their lead to three at 3:46 of the middle frame. From the left half boards Steven Hodges fed Kade Pilton at the right point who unleashed a hard slap shot that beat a screened Comrie for his third of the year. Tri-City got on the board at 6:35 on a tally by Marcus Messier. The puck came to the high slot for Messier who fired a shot past the glove of Hamilton. Victoria restored their three goal lead 25 seconds later when Hodges found the puck in the crease after a scramble and deposited it past an out of position Comrie for his fifth of the season. After the goal Ty Rimmer replaced Comrie in the Americans' net. With less than four minutes left in the period, Tri-City cut the Victoria lead to two. Justin Feser poked the puck in front of the net through a mess of bodies that made it past the goal line at 16:48 for his sixth marker of the campaign. After 40 minutes the Royals lead 4-2.

The Americans pulled to within one goal 17 seconds into the third period after Nathan Macmaster tipped a puck past Hamilton in front of the net. The next several minutes saw Tri-City do everything they could to knot the game up, but Hamilton held his crease to keep his team in front. The Royals' pushed their lead to two after Jamie Crooks notched his eighth at 14:12. Logan Nelson beat an Americans' defender to the puck and centered it for Crooks who deflected it past Rimmer. Tri-City stormed right back 47 seconds later after Malte Stromwall collected a puck in the slot and put it through the legs of Hamilton. With two minutes left in the game, the Americans pulled Rimmer for the extra attacker, but could not find the tying marker. Royals 5 Americans 4

Victoria went 2/3 33.3% on the power play, while Tri-City was 0/2 0.00%. The Americans outshot the Royals 45-25.
