Vancouver Giants News Release

The Vancouver Giants won their 3rd straight game defeating the Prince George Cougars 6-2 Tuesday night at the Pacific Coliseum. The Giants scored 2 goals on the power play, 2 goals shorthanded, and 2 goal even strength to improve to 7-1-0-1 on home this season.

A penalty filled first period saw little flow, but the Giants managed 3 goals. Dalton Sward opening the scoring shorthanded potting his 4th goal of the year, Marek Tvrdon followed up with a power play goal, and then Austin Vetterl beat Drew Owsley with under a minute left in the period to give the Giants a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. That would be the end of Owsley's night as he gave up 3 goals on 11 shots.

After 3 games without a goal, the Cougars finally snapped their scoring drought in the second period to cut the lead to 3-1. Brendan Gallagher scored his 11th of the season on the power play to restore the home team's 3 goal advantage and then Tvrdon banged in a rebound shorthanded to give the Giants a 5-1 lead through 40 minutes.

Both teams would add one more goal each in the third period to make it a 6-2 final. Vetterl scored his 2nd of the game and 3rd of the season. Cain Franson finished with 4 assists. Adam Morrison made 22 saves for the victory in net.

Next up for the Giants is 5 straight games on the road beginning Friday night in Prince George. Game time is 7:05 pm. The pregame show starts at 6:30 pm on AM 650.
