
Royals Fall In Road Contest Against Thunderbirds

Kent, WA - Victoria Royals forward Teague Patton recorded his 40th point of the 2022-2023 season with one assist in an 8-1 road loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds in Kent, WA on Saturday.
The Kelowna, BC product has nearly doubled his career high of 21 points set last season with the Medicine Hat Tigers. Patton currently ranks second on the team in scoring with 12 goals and 28 assists on the year.
Forward Marcus Almquist would collect the lone goal for Victoria in the loss, while starting goaltender Braden Holt made 15 saves on 20 shots before being replaced by backup Nicholas Cristiano, who stopped 13 of 16 after entering the game early in the second period.
Defenceman Kevin Korchinski finished as the top-scorer for Seattle in the win, recording four assists, while goaltender Scott Ratzlaff stopped all but one of the 24 shots he faced.
Seattle (41-9-1-1) forward Mekai Sanders (3) would open the scoring at the 2:34 mark of the first period to give the home side an early 1-0 lead.
That would be followed by a pair of goals in quick succession by forwards Jared Davidson (30) at 7:14 and Brad Lambert (9) at 8:20 to put the Thunderbirds up 3-0 headed into the second period.
Seattle would add on to their lead in the second, first making it 4-0 on Davidson's (31) second of the night at the 2:31 mark, then going up 5-0 on a goal by forward Kyle Crnkovic (26) at 6:56 of the frame.
Finally, the Thunderbirds forward Lucas Ciona (24) would score at the 8:58 mark to give the Thunderbirds a 6-0 lead headed into the third.
Seattle forward Kyle Crnkovic (27) would score his second of the game at the 16:48 mark of the third to increase his team's lead to 7-0.
However, Victoria (15-34-5-1) would put an end to the shutout shortly after on a goal by forward Marcus Almquist (12) at 17:09 of the third, with defenceman Justin Kipkie and forward Teague Patton on the assists.
The Thunderbirds would add one more before the end of regulation, with Sawyer Mynio (5) scoring at the 18:54 mark to seal the 8-1 victory for Seattle.
The Royals and Thunderbirds will meet again for the second of three consecutive matchups on Monday, Feb. 20, where puck drop is scheduled for 2:05 pm at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria.
