WHEATCROFT NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Have a week, Chase Wheatcroft! The Cougars forward scored four goals and seven assists in four games last week - to earn the WHL's Player of the Week honour. The 20-year-old tallied four goals and six assists in three games against the Kelowna Rockets and one assist on Saturday night against the Kamloops Blazers. "I've been having a lot of confidence and playing my game, but most of the credit goes to my line. Wiebe and Becher have been unbelievable," commented Wheatcroft. The Calgary, AB native will enter Monday afternoon's game against the Portland Winterhawks riding a 14-game point streak which consists of 11 goals and 16 assists.

BRENNAN CONTINUES STRONG PLAY IN GOAL

Cougar netminder Tyler Brennan is starting to find his stride in the home stretch of the regular season. In his last seven starts, the New Jersey Devils 4th round pick has six wins and one loss. The Winnipeg MB product sports a 12-9-2 record in 26 games played this season. "He's been solid," said GM and Head Coach Mark Lamb. "We expect that from him and it's no different with Younger (Ty Young) either. We expect our goaltenders to be the best goaltender on the ice and they have that capability."

THE EMERGENCE OF ONDREJ BECHER

A Prince George Cougar who continues to fly under the radar is Czechian forward Ondrej Becher. Becher, 18, has collected 11 points in his last 10 games. On the Cougars Central Division road trip in January, Becher was put on a line with Jaxsen Wiebe and Chase Wheatcroft and they haven't looked back. Since January 20th, the Cougars trio has combined for 18 goals and 28 assists. "He's a stud," said Wheatcroft. "He is probably the most skilled player I have ever played with. The way he moves the puck and dictates the play is honestly so fun to watch and play with. He without question has been a big part of my success here."

HOME SWEET HOME

With 17 games remaining on the Cougars' regular season schedule, 10 of them will be on home ice at the CN Centre. The Cougars have won four of their last five games at home heading into the double-header against Portland. The other teams still to come to town are the Vancouver Giants, Spokane Chiefs, Kelowna Rockets, Victoria Royals, and the Kamloops Blazers.
